I am a book blogger and the owner of Bookworm Blues - a popular speculative fiction book review website. I have been a compulsive reader all my life. Early on found my reading niche in the fantastic genre of Speculative Fiction. I blame my active imagination for the hobbies that threaten to consume my life. A freelance writer and photographer, world traveler and recent college graduate, I'm also a new mother, cancer fighter & survivor. In my ideal world, I'd do nothing but drink lots of tea and read from a never ending pile of speculative fiction books. Respected as a reviewer, I receive book ARCs from all of the major and most minor publishers in science fiction and fantasy. But given my love of stories, I've always wanted to be a part of the creative process, and editing is my first step in that direction.

Announcements

As you may or may not know, I have a second blog I kind of infrequently update with nonfiction book reviews and historical deep dives. I don’t really stress that blog too much, or talk about it a lot because it’s more my brain dumping ground (I use it to sort out and synthesize my…

Editing | Let’s Talk About Dialogue Tags

(Huge hat tip to Joanne Harris on twitter for starting a thread on this, which happened to be something I was planning on addressing anyway. She gave me the idea on just how to break it down and do the thing.) I’ve recently had a few edits that were bogged down by an overuse of…

On Editing: When, Why, What?

I get a lot of emails about editing. There are a few common misconceptions I frequently see which is making me think it might be worthwhile to write a small series of blog posts about this process of publication. Maybe someone will see this and it will help them. There is a lot of (good…
